In the Echoes series, Suter creates optical tools designed to warp, segment, and transform reality. Each piece begins as glass shaped by heat into a precise concave form. Suter then applies layers of specialized industrial paint to both surfaces—a complex process that allows the works to reflect light, creating a dynamic visual field that shifts with the viewer’s movement. The resulting forms are echoes of one another, their repetition building a larger, unified geometry where each element is not a mere copy but a distinct transformation.
Suter’s practice is distinguished by its deep-rooted connection to scientific research into light optics. The Echoes series marks a direct and deliberate evolution from this research, shifting her focus from transmitted light to the principles of reflected light. This new body of work expands upon her foundational experiments with light’s properties, creating a profound dialogue between the seen and the unseen (sound).
